TOURISTS BY THE NIAGARA.
FOR NEW Z_-_______ND SEASOH. A MELBOURNE VISITOR v There were no less than 260 passengers in saloon on board the mail liner' Nil £ gara, which arrived at Auckland ths morning from Sydney on her way to the Islands and Vancouver. The people aboard spent a very happy Christmas' at sea, and as thr, majority of those aboard are bent on holiday-making the races and other amusements ashore .have taken nearly everybody away from the steamer to-day. Amongst the tourists who have decided to spend some time at the pleasure resorts in the Dominion is Mr. % H. Edgar, ex-Minister of Health, Tourist Resorts and Public Works for the" State of Victoria, Australia. Mr. Edgar -was also for seven years a member of the Victorian Legislative CouncilMr. Edgar has always taken a keen interest in the development of tourist sorts in Victoria, and has had an Mr. live part in forwarding schemes for the provision of increased tourist facilities in that part of the Commonwealth.
"I understand that New Zealand has something entirely new to offer even th. veteran tourist," Mr. Edgar remarked this morning. "I have come over with* the intention of doing the sights from Rotorua down to the wonderful lakes in the south." It may be taken for granted that Mr. Edgar will be a keen observer of our tourist methods, and b/ visiting practically every point of interest he anticipates that" he will be able to form a fairly accurate impression of the progress that has been made by the New Zealand Tourist Department [ft making the way of the traveller easy, ..■
A comprebensive round trip of the _[<*■ minion has been mapped out for MrEdgar by Mr. H. J. Mansoti, the Doiiiuv ion tourist agent in Melbourne,
