SOLDIERS' DEATHS.
ONE AT NARROW NECK. During the week-end the deaths of two soldiers in training at Narrow Neck and at Hamilton Hospital, occurred. A Nino Islander named Private Adipa who has ben in training for some time at Narow Neck Camp, died at the camp hospital on Saturday evening. He was buried with military honours this niorn- "_• j,, .. ~ ... ....*_; „L , ~-„„ : .i::; T_».-di».t_ ateß'-bccutred _*____&,' Hospital on Thursday of Trooper T \ Met onbehio, of the Main Expeditionary orcFc, who returned to the Dominion as an invalid some time ago. He was buried at ie Awarmitu on Friday. The somewhat belated arrival of the-' refreshment* compelled those present at a function at Maori Hill (Dunedin) to' follow tlic King/ willy nilly for a I couple of hours. Toasts were honoured ' by tho rather unusual method of cheers j and applause. Unfhoistcricd reminis-| cenco is dry work, and the singing of! the well-known song "Drinking." with; its reference to "cellars cool" and the! gurgling of wet sustenance, had the! obvious effect of making some of those ' present feel thirsty. "I have seldom j been to a. • social function with . such' j peculiar features as" this one has," atf last said one obviously restive,gentle-J' man present meaningly, amid a roar of I laughter. "It will remain in my memory i for all time." Another gentleman re- j grettcd that he had not fetched along an aged relative, who would have liked to have heen present. He explained that he had refrained from doing so because he had expected the function to be a smoke concert of the usual roystering kind. "But I think he would have survived this gathering," the speaker added, amid another laugh. The arrival of a plenteous supply of food and liquids, which had .evidently been accidentally detained, about 10 p.m.. was hailed with beaming smiles, and the function then proceeded merrily, with toasts honoured in the old-fashioned way. Several Stratford tradesmen, and also several other people, have been victimised lately by means of silvered pennies which are in circulation in that district. Soft collars for the holidays are -what please all men. In right sizes and good shapes at George Fowlds, Ltd.—(Ad.)
