THE SCOUT ORGANISATION.

DIFFERENCES DISCUSSED. BEFORE LOCAL ADVISORY BOARD. AMICABLE ARRANGEMENT. As previously announced, certain differences have arisen between the local, scoutmasters and the Dominion council with headquarters at Christcliurcli. In September last his Excellency the (iov ernor. who is head of the Boy Scout organisation in New Zealand, requested the Mayor (Mr. J. H. Uunaon) to take up the question with a view to healing j up the differences that existed. Several, conferences have been held, and the subject of reorganisation freely discussed, and last night a very important meeting of local officers took place at the Mayor's Room in the Town Hall. The Mayor presided, and there were present. Colon- , ! Cossgrove. Dominion Chief Scoutmaster, Sir Cecil Moon, member of the Dominion ; Council at Christchurch, Scoutmaster j Captain Ci. .1. Rust. Captain Seville i Ntuvcomb. Mr. Horace Stcbbing ( honor- j ary organising secretary in Auckland),! Mr. C. J. Parr, M.P.. Messrs. W. E. Bush, j Crcorge Ceorge, R. S. Abel, and Colonel Hume. O.C.D. An apology was received from Bishop Averill, and Mr. G. J. Carland was unable to remain. Previously two terms had been agreed I upon, firstly that the local scoutmasters were to cancel the registration they had effected in the name of the Dominion Boy Scouts, and secondly, that all matters of dispute between the local interests and : headquarters should be referred to the j local Advisory Board. The local scout-1 masters have carried out their terms of the conciliation, and the registration ha 3 been completed. It was. therefore, for thp purpose of taking evidence and adjudicating upon the points of difference that the Advisory Board met last evening. Argument on both sides was heard fully, and the following finding was th.i result of the Board's deliberations, which were held in committee: (li That the badge depot in Auckland be cst.iblishod in accordance with the n-crtil.-itions r.( the Dominion Council; (21 that tho principal of local autonomy he approved in so far as tbe same is not in conflict | with thp Dominion handbook of th-j movement. This means that by-laws and remilatinns invornintr local matters may be drafted by the Council and put in operation in connection with the van ous interests of the causo in Auckland. Several other matters raised -.vpro discussed by the Board, but no further recommendation wa-s hrorisht forward. The ' opinion was freely expressed, however, i that all those who have been or are now j connected with thp movement should i forget their little differences and en- ! operate in the snirit of the true seont. \ so that they could all work in harmony | for the common crood of the boys under their control. If the matter "could ho apprna-hpil in this spirit, jrrent form I would be added to the movement amon" the boy life of the community.
