THE VOLUNTEER SISTERHOOD.
(To tile Editor.) Sir, —In reply to " A FourthYear Nurse," on the question of nurses for the front, permit' mc to say that I did. hot suggest that Volunteer Sisters should be. sent as trained nurses. All the available trained nurses requtml by the Imperial Government vritl undoubtedly be send It is to be hoped, however, that some will Be left here, if it is drily for" tTvc j sake of-the soldiers returning invalided, j But ns wo nre continually hca-ring from I the soldiers' letters that the nurses in 1 Egypt ar?"overworked, it certainly seems I reasonable to suppose tliat sensible-wo-men of mature ap« like the Volunteer Sisters could render valuable service by performing the. lees important duties, so that the trained nurse* would have niorc time to devote to serious cases. The work performed, by the probationers hen\ for instance, is absolutely necessary, but the nurses are not e-Xpeeted to waste their time doing it. I quite agreo with your • correspondent that the wounded soldiers deserve the best possible attention and skill, but if the nurses had plenty of help they would have a better apportunify to use their skill and give the attention.—l am, etc., E. GIBSOX. " Mother of Sons at the Front "* also writing on this subject, says: " Whe.r- , (lesh wounds and broken limbs are principaly to be dealt with, rtny woman with ordinary intelligence would soon learn all that is necessary when placed under Or trained- nurse\ And since the most serious eases are being gent home to be nursed surely we need all the most skilled here, as those we now have am I consider, very much overworked as it is: and according to yesterdav- s paper wo must expert 200 more wounded arrivimr early next month."
