THE CALL FOR MEN.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Volunteers from this district have been slaughtered at the Dardanelles; now the pick of manhood— New Zealanders and British—must be sacrificed in Serbia. Wβ have to die for the Empire. Our Government, by their agents at Whangarei, with sublime wisdom, refused to enlist Croatians' who volunteered for service. The Croatiane, Dalmatians. 'Austrians—whatever one may call them—are more concerned in -the war than ourselves, yet through the action of the Government they remain here and fill positions which out own people, not quite fitted for the front, could very well occupy. The preference seems actually to be given to Austrians —the Government finds them work, boroughs do the same. Xot only arc Austrians and Germans employed, but New Zealandcre have been discharged to make room for them. Imagine this being done for us in Austria, How the aliens must laugh in their sleeves!—l am, etc, BRITISH. Parua Bay, Nov. 22, 1315.
