(By WHALEBONE.) FIXTURES. November 24. 2T—Takapnna J.C. Spring November SO, December I—Fellding J.C. Spring December 28, 29. 31—Auckland Trotting Clnb Summer. Dl Gama is not likely to be raced again for a long time. He Is amiss, and has entered upon a lengthy spell. Slnapis Is stated to be giving her trainer, 3, Scott, a l_t of trouble, and is not likely to be seen out at Fellding next week. A small addition Is being made to the totalisator house ■at • Elltrslie. which will give" 1 a 'lUtie' extra accommodation outside. Owing to the tracks at Grecnmeadows not being to his luting, F. Davis has shifted his team to Woodvllle, and Desert Gold and Co. are now working there. All going well ln the meantime. E. Pope will leave for Fellding on Sunday evening with Gold Fran and Mossrman, both of whlcu are engaged at the Fellding meeting. Mr. J. D. Kemp has disposed of First Call, the full brother to Goldflre, to a and tbe gelding is now under that trainer's charge at Ellerslie. Tuo recent meeting of the Marlborough Racing Clnb resulted in a loss. The club, however, hope to give Increased stakes tor their next meeting, in order to attract v better class of competitor. Warstep. Blackall, Colonel Sonlt, and Snub arc the most popular selections for the Auckland Cap, while Downturn), Nones, Three, Tete-a-teto and King Lupin are most In favour for the Railway Handicap. Mr. D. Thompson scored a win with North East at Caulncld recently, the son of Euroclydon winning the Kasouka Hurdle Race, carrying top weight, 11.10, and starting favourite at 5 to 2. North East won very easily. - Several- southern ■ writers still hold the opinion that Desert Gold/was- lucky to beat Warstep in the Stead • Memorial Cup, one going so far as to say that bad F. E. Jones been -1n the saddle the latter would have won easily. B. Deeley went through the Marlborough meeting without earning a winning bracket. The Aucklnnder has taken out a trotting rider's and driver's license, and." would have been on Mlntson had the son of Papanul started at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's meeting. 3. N. McGregor, the well-known crosscountry horseman, must be the unlucklest rider in Australasia. During his career he has had nearly every bone ln his body broken, and had another bad fall at Caulfleld recently, which resulted in his being laid aside with an injured shoulder. The three-year-old Gold Lac crossed his legs and came down while working on the sand at Ellerslie on Monday morning. His rider, yonng Chaafc, escaped without Injury, but the colt was not so lucky, ana his injuries will prevent his starting at tbe Takapuna meeting on the opening day at nny rate. j ',

The New Zealand-bred Bourlang. by Bezonlan—Nerve, was responsible for a winning performance at the recent Caulfleld meeting. Bourlang carried top weight, 8.12, and won the Stnnsmore Two-year-old Race of five furlongs, and Is evidently a i useful colt. It was real bad luck he did not stay ln Anckland.

Mr J. Hawkins bas been very lucky with Toa Tere on the other side, the latest success , gained by the son of Maoiapoto being iv I the Warwick Farm Handicap on Saturday last. Claude Mlmer, which ran second, is J trained by the cx-Aucklandcr, T. A. -Wil-' liams. The gelding Poropiti, which is the only I descendant of the one-time crack hurdler Prophet, is now under E. Pope's charge at Ellerslie. Poropiti, in company with Ulster, i was schooled over the small hurdles at headquarters yesterday morning, showing , he hau the jumping gift well developed. I Ulster also fenced in good style. Two of Mr. G. Currle's breed, In Royal Kufus and Common Law, were successful at the Q.T.C. meeting recently, the former winning the Sandgate Handicap ln Mr. R. Richards' colours, while Common Law won the King's Plate in the colours of Sir. Currie. Common Law ran third in the Queensland Cup, and second In the Derby on the other days of the meeting. In some quarters there is a disposition to raise some doubt as to where the Taumarunul Racing Club will hold their first meeting. On this point there Is no uncertainty, for the country club's programme bas been approved by the District Committee, and, subject to the president of the New Zealand - Racing Conference agreeing to the alteration of date, the gathering will be. held on the AVoudale course on .Wednesday, February 2,

The name of Mendacity has been claimed for the Monoform—Mentira filly trained at Ellerslie by F. McMancmin. Finlstcrre, which won at Marlborough last week, had not previously earned a winning bracket. The Bunyan—Miss Winnie filly, which is an inmate of J. Thorpe's stable at Ellerslie, has had the name or Grctchcn claimed for it. Acceptances for the second day's racing of the Takapuna Jockey Club's Spring Meeting close with the secretary, Mr R. Wynyard, to-morrow (Thursday) at noon. I Subsequent to bis unplaced performance in the Hopeful Stakes at the recent Brisbane meeting, Maori Mat was given another run at the meeting, but again ran unplaced. The question of how long a horse should be spelled after be has been operated on has always created considerable discussion. The local veterinary surgeon. Dr. Ring, has stontly maintained that provided nothing unforeseen occurs after the operation, a horse need not be thrown out of work at all, but can be exercised regularly. This argument was well exemplified last week, wben Sweet Prince, which was added to the list abont three weeks ago, won the Epsom Handicap at the Otahnhu Trotting Club's Spring Meeting. Sweet Prince was thoroughly tested, for he was under pressure practically the whole of the journey, and it was only by sheer stamina that he wore down Haurnla in the last fnrlong, and got the verdict. BAY OF PLENTY JOCKEY GLUB. The Bay of Plenty Jockey Club's programme for their annual meeting, which takes place at Taoranga on December 11, will require attention from horse owners on Saturday next, the 27th Inst., before '.) p.m. Nominations can be made either with Mr. H. H. Hayr, Auckland, or Mr. [.. B. Day, Taurangn. Weights will be declared on November 30, and acceptances close on December 7. The club have Installed a Saywell patent starting barrier, and have arranged with the Northern Company to run a special excursion, leaving Anckland on December 9, and returning after the races. OTAHUHU TROTTING CLCB. Although the totalisator receipts at the Otabuhu Trotting Club's Spring Meeting showed a slight falling off as compared with last year, the decision was not sufficiently large to affect the financial side of the gathering. The racing was much better than usual, especially on the second day, when the fields were good and the finishes decidedly Interesting. Only three first 'favourites won on the concluding day, and these were not so pronounced as Is generally the case, so that their supporters got a fair retnrn for their investments. During the two days some promising sorts were seen out. and the class of horse racing locally is gradually Improving, and the time does not seem far distant when Auckland stables will be able to hold their own with the best in the country.
