HOSPITAL BOARD.

ORDINARY, MEETING. APPOINTM ENT OF - SPRCfiOSIS. The Auckland Hospital and Charitable AW Board met last evening. Present: Messrs 'M. J. Coyle Icbairman), F. Dye, J. G. Rutherford, J. Rowe, E. H. Potter, P. J. Nerheny, W. Wallace, >S. J. Ilarbutt, and P. M. Mackay. MEDIOAL OFFICERS' APPOINTMENTS. An opinion from the Medical Committee on the question of tbe appointment of four honorary assistant medical officers for attendance at the hospital was read by the chairman. The committee recommended that the appointments be not made. Tbe number of surgical cases normally under treatment at the hospital, tbe report stated, was such as the four honorary surgeons could fully undertake. In tbe impending deficiency ln the surgical staff, the committee recommended that the work of the two surgeons who would be absent should be carried on by men of previous surgical training and experience. The committee considered also that the time was Inopportune for Increasing so considerably the honorary surgical appointments. Many of the most eligible candidates were absent fighting for their country, and It would be a hardship to them to find on their return that appointments had been filled for a term toy men perhaps junior lo them In yeaTS and ability who had remained at home. The report was received. "HONOURS' SHIELD." It was deckled that an "Honours Shield" should be obtained on which to record the names of members of the hospital staff who had enlisted. A report presented showed that fourteen members of the honorary staff had already proceeded to the front, while of the resident staff six had gone. Ten nurses had also gone to assist in the nursing of the wounded, and two others had stated their intention to leave next month. The matter -was referred to the Finance Committee, with power to act. WA'RKWORTH COTTAGE HOSPITAL. The chairman moved 'that the. Hoard proceed with the erection of the cottage hospital at Warfcworth as soon as- pus? sible, and that the Building Committee be empowered to make any necessary alterations in the plans that were agreed upon. The motion was carried, and it was further resolved that the cost of the building should be paid out of loan moneys.
