TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB. SPRING MEETING. KING LUPIN WINS THE BOROUGH HANDICAU. | MULLINGAR LANDS THE BIG RACE. I The opening day's -racing In connection with the Takapuna Jockey Club's Spring meeting, took place at the North Shore this afternoon. The weather -was tine, and the course in good order, the attendance being up to the average. Results are: — MAIDEN HANDICAP Ot 150sovb; second horse Sisovs. Distance, one mile. Mr J. J. Barrett's br g Glueian, syre, 5.2 (Lang) 1 Miss Nelson's eh g Centenary, Oyrs, 8.0 (Chuse) - 2 Mr. J. D. Kemp's eh g Plenipotent, Gyre, .1.13 (McCuTdy) (. .♦ 3 Also started: ulenopal 8.0, Sea Doll 8.0, Gluetanus 7.13, Laverna 7.3, Barney Paul 7.11, Kidderminster 7.11, Pre-eminent 7.11, and King Phaeton 7.11. There was some delay at the post, and when the barrier lifted Baraiey raul hung and lost several lengths. Glueian was quickest to begin, leading past the stand, followed by King rhaeton, Centenary,Plenlpotent and Preeminent, the last pair being Sea De'il and Barney Paul. ■Going along the back Glueian was ont three lengths ln front of King Phaeton, Plenipotent, and Centenary, which were in close company, with Gluetanus and Glenopal most prominent of the others. Crossing the top, Glueian still had command, three lengths el-ear of Centenary, with Plenipotent nest, the rest of the field, with Gluetanus at the head, being strung out, and in this order they turned for home. In the run to the Judge Glueian easily held his own, finishing up a winner by three lengths from Centenary, which was two and a-half lengths ln front of Plenipotent. Gluetanus was fourth, and then came Glenopal, Laverna. and King Phaeton, with Barney Paul last. Time, 1.46 2-5. Gluetanus was favourite. BOROUGH HANDICAP of 200 SOTS. Five and a-half furlongs. Tyson was first to break the line, and led into the back stretch, just clear of King Lupin and Kitty Bellairs, with Glenroy, Rupahu. Hydrus, and Worcester racing in that order. Tyson was setting a solid pace going along the back, Kitty Bellairs, King Lupin, and Glenroy racing in n bunch a length behind, with Rupahu next, and .Hydrus and Worcester heading the others. Crossing the top .Rupahu came to grief, and Worcester fell over him, Tyson leading Into the straight, closely attended by King Lupin, Kitty Bellairs, and Glenroy. At the distance Tyson looked like seeing It out, but King Lupin, getting a run through on the rails, put in a great finishing effort, which landed him a winner by a length. Glenroy got third, a length away, Just in front of Kitty Bellairs, and then cainc Munster, Hydrus, and Glissando, with iMultlone last. Time, 1.0. King Lupin wis favourite. When they were let go Gallupin was first out, showing the way past the stand, followed by Sensitive, Brunswick, Dandy •Breese, Master Roger, Gwalior. and Marconi, with Hopye heading the others. Racing at the first obstacle Galiupln and Dandy Breeze were together, with Gwalior, Marconi, and 'Hopye following In that order, and the others bunched. Gallupin made a faulty Jump, and Gwalior went on in the lead, showing the way over the hnrdle In the straight where Hopye came to grief, but passing the stand the second time. Gallupin was in charge again, Marconi running up second, and the latter, getting in front going along the back the last time, cleared out from the field, winning by ten lengths from Gallupin, which was four lengths in front of Prince Eddie, which beat Tenacious on the post •for third honours. Tiri was next, and then came Brunswick and Crispeen. the last pair being Sensitive and Dandy Breeze. Time, 3.1. Galiupln was favourite. ST' ANDREW'S HANDICAP of 450sovs. One mile and a Quarter. Mr Jas. Hand's b h Mnllingar, by Marble Arch—Komola, 4yrs. 7.12 IDeelev).-... 1 Mr E. J. L. Rae's b m Self.- oyrs. 7.3 (Thompson) _r: .- 2 Mr D. V, Mbraghan's br f Loyal Arch, 3yrs, 7.7 (Conquest) 3 Also started: Royal Irish 8.9, Lolama B.G, Tlnopal 8.1, Goldslze 7.11, El Gallo 7.7, Carapeador 7.7. After Goldslze had caused a bit of trouble, they left -together, 'Miftlngar being first to move, but. Self and Loyal Arch soon headed him, the former going out to make the running, with Tinopal and Loyal Arch together, and Lolcima, Goldsize, and Royal Irish following. Campeador being last. Passing the stand and going out of the straight Self was the pilot, with Tinopal, Loloma, and Campeador racing In line, and Royal Irish, Goldslze, Mnllingar. and El Gallo racing in that order. Going along the back Eelf still had command, with Tinopal, Loloma, Loyal Arch, Goldslze, 'Royal Irish, and Mnllingar all handy in a. bnnch, the last pair being El Gallo and Campeador. Self still had charge as they crossed the top, and turned for home, where Mnllingar had improved his position, and Loyal Arch, Tinopal, Goldsize. and Royal Irish were also in the fighting line. Once in line for the Judge Selt looked all over a winner, but Deeley bringing Mulilngar along on the outside SwiOlVjf great run, finished in fine style, and sot the verdict by three-quarters of a length. Loyal Arch got third, half a length away, then came Goldsize, Tinopal. Royal Irish, and El Gallo, with Campeador last. Time, 2.11. Loyal. Arch was favourite.
