A very pleasant gather ng of the past n.l present commer, ial travellers of the ort'-i Auckland district was held at the bib-rooms of the Auckland Commercial r-i.-ller-' and Warehousemen's Assoeialon in Durham Street on Saturday i-'ht. Tin- occasion was the pre-enta-niti of an illuminated ad,lre-*, to Mr. lugh Wallace, of Me.i-rs. L. U. Nathan nd < 0.. Ltd. Tin- presentation was lade by Mr. 1.. W. Mct'lashan, of J. M. Ic-nnie'anl ( 0., who spoke very highly f tic- continuous service of Mr. Wal-t.-c. extending over thirty-five yeans. wentv-flve ol' which had been in the orth' Auckland di-trict. Mr. Wallace eelingly replied, and referred euloeis-i.-ally to many old commercial travelers, some of whom had joined the great lajority. while others; had taken up th.-r occupation*. He aho referred to he cordial relations which had always xi.-ted among commercial travellers -ersonally. an I between commercial tra-.-I'.-rs and their employers. The wholesale trade was represented •v Mr. J. M. Mennie. Mr. C. Brown 'of lacky. Logan. Caldwell and Co.. Ltd.), nd by Mr. Benjamin i of Messrs. 1.. D. .'atiian and < 0.. Ltd.). During the evening musical and other terns were rendered by Messrs. f'row h.-r, liar land. I.eKuez. and Kirkbride. Advantage was taken of this gathe-r----ng of Northern commercial -ravellcrs to ring forw-ard the question of the Auckand Commercial Travellers and Warelousemen's Association nominatinz a iiieen for the Queen Carnival to be held n Auckland province. No doubt it thus Vssociation undertake this mork they .ill endeavour to secure the same sue•ess that has been achieved by the other -ommercial travellers' associations in .ther parts of the Dominion. Reference was also made to the eventn annual concert of the Ansocia::on tor the benefit of the Whangarei md North-rii Hospital-, to be held in Uh.-.ngare: on t.,e Path Oetobei. Thf results of these concerts 'had increase.! fnm some ioii the first year to no lesthan t1.y.i.1 last year, and it was exporter that the concert this year would result in a still higher -urn.
