'he won the Qual i. ing Competition for the Massachusetts Amateur Championship. He went round in 71. which (says the Xew York "World"i was six strokes better than the record for the course. A golfing novice had made various vain attempts to hit the hall, which lay in rather an awkward position. "What shall I do next, my man?" said the golfer to the caddie. "(lh, I iliinno. guv'iior." remarked the caddie. "I think you'd better give it i swipe with the hag."
