PRINCE OF WALES AS A SHORTHORN BREEDER.
The Prince nf Wales, nn the initiativß of the Kin?, has entered upon an intere-t----in; farming enterprise on the Duchy estate in lorn wall (says "The Tirtms"). The shorthorn is to be tho prevailing breed of rattle- The tusk of establishing tho herd was begun without, delay. The herd is particularly strong ;n balls. The latest addition—< ".olivine Kefl Knight, thy hipheit priced buU (ralf at Mr Duthie'a sale last October—is in some the mo.-t noU j «orthy because of the competition he excited at the Collvuie sale before he could be secured for tho Royal herd. He cost 850 guineas. The other live stock at Whiteford include a few De,von cnifj reserablin" in character and quality the old Quartly strains rather thaa the modern ,nr Somerset type, a small herd of the Lar<»e Black pigs that have undisputed possession of this part of the country, a small flock of Devon Long-wooUed sheep, and a Clydesdale stallion, introduced for the benefit of the Duchy tenants and, other farmers in the locality.
