In connection with the national iuduatrial census, a table lias been prepared showing that on July 31 Anatralia held, in cold storage 32,953 ,fK)Olb of beef, 4,027,0001b of mutton. 1.893.0001b of lamb, and 8,299.0001b of preserved meat. In regard to butter. ,i is estimated that from 30 to 40 per cent of the dairy cattle were lot dur.ng the drought period. There will be an ample supply of butter for the home market, but little for export. A considerable shortage ol chee-se is regarded as certain. The Government statistician sho*s. that the price of meat in Sydney in August wa? 51 per cent, and that: of other food and groceries 25 per cent above those ruling in July of last feat The prices last month were 9.6 per'centJ above those of the previous month.
