HEROIC BAND OF BRITISH. ■ A DANDY FIGHT.'' (Times and Sydney Sue Services ) (Received 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 16. An officer oi the Liverpool Regiment told a graphic story of the recent battle ' round Hooge. "Under a hundred British, • wounded and unwouuded, were sheltering between the lines, and when the enemy was pressing home an attack found themselves against a battalion of Germans, who asked them to surrender. The corporal in command curtly,. refused, and] soon the little hand was fighting for dear ' life. The Britons put up a 'dandy' fight. Time after time they smashed tlie enemy's attack to smithereens. In the end their ammunition failed, and the heroes, who were reduce.l to one-half, resorted to the bavor.et against the n">vv furious assaults ,■1 the Germans, who charged like a hurri- , nine, but the men stocd firm. Brute force told in the end. and the weary survivors i died where they stood rather than surrender. Their resistance saved our line lat a vital point."
