PAYING THE BILL.
AVAR TAX AND TAXATION. STATEMENT BY PREMIER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Replying to a deputation from the Federation of Labour Conference, Mr Massey referred to the question of war taxation and war tax. He said they must come, but at the moment he could not tell what extra taxation would be required. It would be a large sum, and Parliament would c to be asked for it. How would it be raked? It would b.i very improper for him to give away decisions of Cabinet before they were placed before the Hoi-ee. He would say tl:ey had to bear in mind the present east of living to the wage earner. One of the epeaker3 in the deputation had suggested an increase in both thrgraduated land and income taxe?. "I | enn't say on this point," aJded Mr. Massey, "what we will do, but I can cay that I think we shall he able to raise tin- money neceseary without making the | of livinrr harder to those who I have difficulty now in making both ends J i:.'ct.
