ENEMY TRENCHES CAPTURED.
FIERCE FIGHTING NORTH OF ARRAS. THE GALICIAN CAMPAIGN. ENEMY ADVANCING UPON LEMBERG. ENVER PASHA IN DISGRACE. The latest reports of the fighting in France are of a satis- [ factory nature, the Allied armies having made progress at I several points in their sectors of the line, dispersing the German counter-attacks. The fighting in the sector northwards from Arras was particularly severe. The Germans occupied a very strong position in a ravine, and were attacked on three sides by the French, who poured in an avalanche of steel and then attacked with the bayonet. The Germans fought like cornered rats, but were driven out of their first line of trenches, and the attacking movement is still in progress. Further to the north the French made a thousand yards' progress at Souchez, while in the Argonne they repulsed a fierce attack by the German forces. The thunder of the Austro-German guns has been heard at Lemberg, but recent heavy rains have turned the low-lying lands into swamps, thus assisting the Russian defence.
