At the monthly meeting of the Birkdale School Committee the annual report of the Education Board's inspector I was received. The chairman (^ r, I Frank Finch) remarked upon the extraordinary delay from the date tie report was sisrned by the inspector, vii. February 20. and 'its receipt by tie thairmau on June 4. As the report was of especial interest to the house- . holders, the committee regretted that it was not to 'hand in time for the householders' annual meeting in April, and' ■although somewhat belated, the committee considered publicity shouM M piven to the main features'of the report for the benefit of householders:—Attendance, organisation v>: classes, ere. satisfactory; schemes of work, etc., generally satisfactory; discipline an J genera! behaviour, yon- satisfactory: school accommodation, ample; books used as authorised. Members of the committee asked why any reference to some very important sections were omitted by the inspector, and it was decided to ask the Board for a complete report. The Mayor of Wellington is convening a conference of mayors of alltovrns in New Zealand, and chairmen.of patriotic committees, for Friday. July 2, to determine if there shall be one national war relief fund or several provinciil funda.
