WOMEN BANK CLERKS.
(To the Editor.) Sir,- T pec that some nf the banks talk of taking women on in clerks. 1, with many others, consider that th.a ie a mistake, and t'liat by so t'oing employers are only encouraging our girls to evade, j that which should be the highest point of tihcvr ambition- I mean motherhood. There is not the least doubt that for yeans girls have Bought to compete in commercial life; that many of them have Fiiccpoded in obtaining sufficient remuneration fjom such source to live comfortably, and have found an easier way to live than by m-.ir.riagc. T say that by encouraging this sort of thing we nre not doing the best possible for the Empire. Wiha.t we want is boys, nnd plenty of them. I hope that some abler pen than mine will take the matter up. and endeavour to point out tn these plrts and women their obligation to t'lerr country.—l am, etc., SAIfUEL WIPE.
