HAWKE'S BAY JOCKEY CLUB. .WINTER MEETING CONCLUDED. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") HASTINGS, Saturday. The concluding day's racing iv connectiou with the Uawie's .Bay Jockey Club's Winter Meeting took place at Hastings.

From a Hue beginning of vie afternoon, rain set Ju just before the steeplechase started, aud continual to .the finish of the day.

The last race but one o£ the day, the •Ruuka.wa 'Hack Handicap, brought out twenty-two runners, .the biggest Held of the gathering, ithe -wlthdraw-als being ltatn'anuwJilrl and St. Uiner. The race was the best betting one of the meeting, and for the first time over a thousand pounds was invested- on a starter, (he honour goipg to Toki, which Jiud the services if l>eeley. iUacara aud Moltegtrrde were next in reauest with just live hundred tickets on their numbers, the others only getting halt-hearted support,' several .being nearly neglected altogether. The dispatch was a fairly even one, Papoluru being early in the lead, followed toy Astrologer, Danger Signal,, and Toki, ■while iMundollne was slow to move. Crossing ithe 'top Papalura was out iby hlms'elf, but Mandoline, which showed a lot of pace, was alongside hliu at the home turn, where Astrologer. Blsick Heart, Toki, and Miacaru wore also prominent. At the distance Mandoline was well clear, ami, easily stalling off the finishing efforts of Black Heart and Mlacara, won by two lengths, half-a-iength separating apcoud and third. Discussion was fourth, f Toki fifth, and No Idea sixth, the last pair to finish being Danger Signal and Master ;Roger. The winner paid- a two-ngure dividend'—the biggest at the llxture.

Jlla-ck Heart, having started in the previous race, was withdrawn from the Final Handicap, with which the rawting concluded, leaving only n quartet to face the tapes. Speculation -was confined principally to Ardent, Beldame, and Ilymetclus, the other starter (Mt. Victoria) currying about enough to pay the «.'ommis : slon. and they were backed in the order named. Ardoul being a good favourite, with over a thousand pounds on his number.' ilymcttiuH ami Mt. Victoria got away Ivltli «i run. lteldame and Ardent being' lqft standing. Hymettiufl made the running along the back and across tho tnp, followed by Mt. Victoria, while Beldame and Ardent were sonic bai.f-doss.en lengtiis away. Ardent moved up once the straight was reached, .and c.jught. Mt. Victoria at the distance, b(it the )ialr had no chance of reaching ltymettliis, which won easily by two lengths, with a head between second and thlrJ, and Beldame a length away, last.
