SCENE IN FEDERAL HOUSE. j{O CONFIDENCE MOTION DEFEATED. MELBOURNE, Juno 20. The discussion in the Federal House of Representatives upon the no-confidence motion moved on Friday evening by Mr Joseph Cook (Leader of the Opposition) resulted in the amendment being uegati'.cd by 30 to 20. The closure was applied during the introductory stages of the discussion. The closure was again applied to Mr Cook on the motion for adjournment, amidst great excitement. During the debate. Mr Foster (member for Waksfield. South Australia) was suspended, and later he was ejected from {he strangers' gallery. Mr Cook characterised the sitting as the most disgraceful proceedings in the history of Parliament. Mr McGrath, of Ballarat, in conjunction with Mr Anstey (Labour-member for Qourkc) has forwarded his resignation. A MUZZLED MEMBER. MR COOK SPEAKS OUT. GOVERNMENT FAILURES. (Received 10.50 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. Mr Anstey, addressing a member yes- . terday, explained that his resignation was due to the fact that he was muzzled and chained by the caucus like a dog in a kennel. He claimed that the Government had failed to safeguard the people by keeping down the prices of food.

Mr J. Cook (Leader of the Opposition), commentinjr on the proceedings in the Honse when there was a scene, said: "It furnished a painful Australian war chapter. Although spurned, repudiated, and insulted by the Prime Minister and the Attorney-General, we try to do our duty in this crisis. As we. have been challenged, we mny call attention to matters of vital importance wherein the Government has failed to realise the opportunities and responsibilities of the situation."
