WORK OF THE PIRATES.
BRITISH WARSHIPS SANK U29. MORE STEAMERS TORPEDOED. LONDON, June 20. The Admiralty states that the submarine U29, commanded by Capt. Weddingen, who, it is said, sank the Aboukir, Cressy, Hogue, and other vessels, was sunk by a British warship. The steamer Dulcie, 2,033 tons, bound from Shields to Havre with a load of coal, was torpedoed off the Orfordness lighthouse. A fireman was killed and the rest of the crew landed at Yarmouth. * The British steamer Ailsa, bound from Norway to Leith, was torpedoed. Her crew was saved. Amsterdam reports that advices from Germany indicate that the mails from the captured Swedish steamer Thorstcn have been handed over to the Swedish authorities unopened.
SWEDISH ANGER GROWS. A CLEAR STATEMENT WANTED. LONDON, June 20. A message from Christiania says that tho newspapers demand a clear statement of the Government's attitude with regard to the destruction by snbmarines 6f Norwegian vessels. The message adds that in Stockholm, Swedish opinion is displaying more and more signs of anger over the torpedoing of Swedish merchantmen. COMPENSATION DOES NOT JUSTIFY. WASHINGTON, June 20. The American reply to the German Note with regard to the sinking by the Germans of the American barque William Fryc refuses to admit that any American ship carrying contraband may be destroyed by the Germans provided it .is paid for by Germany.
