OND AND OPF THE FIRING LINE. LONDON", June 20. Traitors Sentenced. Emile Cauvelier and his wife, who are Belgians, and Henri Gouraerdt, a native of Dunkirk, who have all been conducting a potato business at Capelle, have been sentenced to death for spying. They were caught at Herseek when in possession of luminous fuses, which they used for tho purpose' of signalling to , the Germans. They confessed, after 49 witnesses had been heard.
Intercepted Gold. The Russians have confiscated a substantial consignment of bar gold from Mongolia destined for Germany. The gold was sent under a Chinese name. Fire at Contantinople. An accidental fire destroyed 1,500 Turkish houses in the Pera quarter of Constantinople. Krupps on Long Distance Guns.* The workmen employed at Krupps , works at Essen number 115,000. They are engaged especially in the manufacture of big guns of very long range. Tenure of Government. The British Government is in favour of the present Parliament being extended for one year, and of there being no municipal elections in November. Armenian Nationalists. The "Frankfurter Zeitung" states that 20 Armenians were executed on Tuesday in front of the Ministry of War on a charge of inciting their co-religionists to establish an independent Armenia. Wave of Temperance. The production of Scotch malt whisky has decreased by 1,000,000 gallons for the season, Russia's Millions. The "Frankfurter Zeitung* deprecates excessive optimism in regard to the Galician struggle. "We must not forget, , ' states the journal, "that Russia is danger* ous because her human material can ojd* with, difficulty Ire exhausted,"* -j^-'
