About 150 friends attended a farewell social to Sergt.-Ma.jor Arthur Parrish, held in Tarry's Hall, Northcote, last night, ou the eve of his departure, for active service. On behalf of his friends, Mr. Parrish was the recipient from the hands of the Deputy-Mayor (Mr. J. B. Tonar) of a wrist watch and silver safetyrazor. In the course of his reply, Sergt.Major Parrish said Northcote had alreadysent between fifty and sixty splendid young men to the Front. Addresses were also given by Mr. Mark Parrish (who referj-pd in enthusiastic terms to the fact that his youngest son was going forth to battle for the Dominion and the Empire) and Mr. John Broady |who facetiously invited the. bachelors over 35 to enrol as a corps for the Front, since they would not do their duties to the ladies at home, even though it appeared that before long there would soon be about three old maids to each bachelor). An enjoyable dance programme was gone, through, Mr. H Glover acting as M.C, while the* music was contributed by Miss E. Warner Messrs. D. McFetridge and Neave. Sono, were rendered by Mrs. S. Heaps, Miss E Warner. Messrs. F. Swinbank. H Glover (i. Ralston, whistling solo and humorous item by Mr. F. Dalton. and recitations by Mrs. W. Jones and Mr. R. Lovel! Mes dames H. Glover, W.
