The Finance and i>egal (nmmittee of the City Council recommended last night tiiat the following rates bo -truck for the current year: — In the city area: General rate. | 4 in the X. -. Jibrary rate. The Mayor explained thai the Finance ("ounnitlee'.T re ■oinmeiidiil ions respecting the rates showed no departure from last year, except that there was an advance of lid in the drainage rate, due to statutory demands, which had lo be met. with an increased rafo. it was also the intention of the Finance Committee to call up only 1/ of the general rate, us last year, so that there would lie no
alteration whatever. It was decided to defer consideration of the report, together -with the estimates, for a special meeting, to be held At 7 o'clock next Monday evening.
