JERMYN STREET SCHEME.
I . THE AMENDED PROPOSAL EXPLAINED. IiAIN OF NEARLY £9.000 TO COUNCIL. The -Mayor (Mr. J. H. Gunson) submitted a report to the City Council last night dealing in detail with, the amendments to the Jerruyn Street scheme adopted at the previous meeting of the ( ounoil. A plan Hhovring the improvement scheme was also shown and explained by the Mayor, who stated that in accordance with the Council's authority negotiations had been concluded for the purchase of the two properties, upon winch a report was presented last Council meeting. The Harbour Board had confirmed the sale of the whole of their interest in Cilenalvon. freehold and leasehold, for €12.(320. and .Mr. Russell's agreement to sell had also been confirmed. The relative position in regard to this improvement and the scheme as it was previously adopted was as follows: Old proposal with wall: Cost of wall and steps. £4,500; compensation claim. €2.000: total, £6,500. Amended proposal adopted by Council: Credit Buildings (2). £750; 320 ft, at CSO. £2. r ).H00: ISfiin = f)3ft, at £20, C 1.560: 12iift. at £20, £2,400: total, ! tsn.tiio. Debit: Auckland TTarbour Board. Clenalvon. €12,020; lessee do., £1,150; K. Russell. .C.'i.iiiin: other claims. £2.200; cost of excavation. c £. _ >.000; wall (if portion required may not be needed), j €2.f>00; total. .€28.470. I Credit b.ilance, €2.140. J -Therefore." sail! the Mayor, "the net gain to the Council in pounds, shillings : and pence is carefully estimated to bo 1 CS.IMO. in addition to which the Council's viiluers reported as follows: There jis no doubt thiii the new arrangement j would add to the value of the whole street, as it would make the main approarh to the new outlet very much better and more valuable.'
