CLAIMS OF THE TROTTER.

BETTER THAN THE THOROUGHBRED. IGNORED IN THE SHOW RING. (By Telegrepfi.—;Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. The relative qualities of the thoroughbred and trotting were diecngßed at the annual meeting of the Waikato A. and P. Association yesterday, when Mr. H. E. Tristram suggested that a section should be added to the schedule for trotting louses. At present, 'he declared, the judges had eyee for nothing but the thoroughbred, co that if a trotte* wae "entered in a roadster class (being eligible for no other) the award, where a. thoroughbred wae also entered, wa* always given to the latter, though it was by no mam the better horse, and compared with a good trotter, wae not really a roadster at all. It seemed to the speaker that the present day judge saw m> further than a raeebome— long, lanky, weak-backed things—for the whole lot erf which he would wot exchange one good trotter. The epeaker moved a resolution in the direction indicated, which was seconded by Mr. W. E. Goodwin.

Mr. T. Hinton said ttemsn educated to the thoroughbred type viewed the trotter in the light thai Mr. Tristram described the thoroughbred. It was held l>v;«aimiiinieinbvre. nf the Aesocta*h>H thatiJaW juitpi%..eHseee had in the ,pas-f been overdone to the detriment of other sections of the show. He contended, however, that events had been instrumental in bringing some of the fiirc&t htxnjes in the Dominion to the chow, while laet year the donations and entry fees amounted to £75 13/, and the expenses of the Ting events to £73, showing a iret profit of £2.13/. The previous yeaT this section showed a net profit of £33 10/.

Mr. motion wee carried nmaniatouely.
