DISMISSED WITHOUT NOTICE.

Clarence Horace Winter (trading as the Wast End Tailoring Company) was charged at the Magistrate's Court yeisterday with having on December 24th dismissed two ■employees without giving the three days' notice to which they were entitled to under the award. Inspector Newton appeared for the Department. Mr. R. Singer appeared fr>r defendant, and pleaded guilty. He said there was ■no question the giirlis were dismissed without notice. The point was done without the knowledge of Mr. Winter. Mary Green stated she was employed at tile West End Tailoring Company. The man in charge of the work room dismissed 'lwr on Christmas Eve. He fold her the Ohrietmas tubli wa>= through, and there would be no more work. Sh; asked if she was not entitled to be paid {•or Christmas Day, and also to have 24 hours' notice. She was not then aware she was entitled to three days' notice. In answer to Mr. Singer, witness told her he wais not aware the girls had been dismissed. Mary Shehan, another employee, gave co-rroboTative evidence. Mr. Newton said the girls had eince been paid for Christinas Day and the three days in lieu of notice. Clarence Horace Winter, partner in the West End Tailoring Co., said he wae not aware t'he .girls had been ditsiuiseed. Mr. Kettle tsaid this did not seem to him an intentional breach of the award. It was very likely due to Uie hurry and buetle of Christmas time that the right to three days' notice wais overlooked. A penalty of 5/ wai> imp;a=ed in each case, caste being allowed the girla.
