THE CITY ROLLS.

. LAST CLOSES OH TUESDAY 17- ■ NEXT. TOTAL OF 30,000 VOTERS ESPECTEiT I Those who desire to participate in the [voting at the municipal elections on April 28, and have not yet seen that i their names are on the roils, should realise that time is slipping underneath •their feet. The supplementary roll is their last chance, and that closes at five o'clock on Tuesday: next. Perhaps the public will receive more reminders than usual on . this occasion, because of the extra canvassing which is going on in connection with the election of mayor and city councillors. This should have the further effect oi etimulating interest on election day. An erroneous impression that is militating against the compilation of a full roll prevails with some people. It is that if their names are on the Parliamentary roll they will also appear on the municipal roll. Of course, there are different qualifications for voting at rnunkipail elections—"freehold," rate- ! payers," "residential," and "office" qualifications.

The last-mentioned means that if a man who resides in the outside suburbs and yet pays £.0 or more office rent in the city, he and his wife may vote at the city elections. A further point of- interest is that if residential or other pro-perty-is in a wife's -name the husband may also vote, and vice versa'

At present the city area embraces Auckland Central, Auckland West. Auckland East, part of Grey Lynn and practically the whole of ParieU ™ takirrg the electoral boundaries. The returning officer (Mr. Geo. R. Hogan) .nd ins staff are having a busy time in con.pi_.ng the rolls.
