GIRL DROWNED AT NAPIER.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) •NAPIER, Sunday. A bathing' fatality ocurred on the beach this morning. A girl named Florence Miller, 17 years of age, was bathing in the surf with three friends, when the backwash carried her out. A young man named Andrew Robertson made a gallant attempt at rescue, but was twice thrown violently on the beach, and narrowly escaped losing his own life. The body of Miss Miller was washed up an hour later half-a-mile from the place where it was carried in. A very heavy north-east sea was running at the time. At the inquast held this afternoon a verdict of accidental drowning was re- ' turned. The coroner advised that power should be taken by the Borough Council, by by-law, to prevent surf-bathing when the breakers are dangerous.
