TRENCH GALLANTLY HELD BY BRITISHERS.
THREE MEN KEEP GERMANS AT BAY.
POSITION HELD TILL HELP ARRIVES.
■ LOXDOX, February 28. Referring to the fighting on February 17, south-cast of Ypres, "Eyewitness" states that a British force resisted until all were killed or wounded. Only three of the latter v.ere capable of tiring, and still they kept the enemy at bay until their ammunition was almost exhausted.
Word of. their plight was sent to "the rear, and seven men carried ammunition to the trench, where they found the three gallant survivors standing among their dead and disabled comrades, still firing steadily; The new arrivals came just in the nick of time to help and beat'off an assault. The position was saved. ....•'„•'---.'
In his narrative the writer mentions that in one portion of a brickfield a young German officer charged at the head of 30 men. waving his sword. The little band reached the entanglements, where they were all killed., the officer still lies there, sword in hand, with his .30 comrades dead around him.
