— « OTAHUHU TROTTING CLUB. CONCLUDING DAY. WALLACE M. WLNS THE CUP. HANDSOME DONATION TO THE BELGIAN FUND. The Otannbn Trotting Club's Summer Meeting was concluded at Alexandra Park on Saturday in fine weather. There was a large attendance, and the races were of a very high standard. The Otahuhu Club decided that its share of the totaHsator gross receipts of the Trotting Club Cup should be donated to the Belgian Relief Fund. The sum of £2,441 was invested on the race, so that the Belgian Fund will benefit to the extent of about £150.. The arrangements for the meeting were excellently carried out. reflecting every credit upon the president (Mr. H. K. MacKenzie), the secretary (Mr F. D. Yonge). and the members of the committee. A BIG FIELD. There were no -withdrawals for the opening handicap, and the big field of seventeen saddled up and went to the 1 post. Singlet was a couple of pounds better favourite than Springbok. Only three other horses in the race—Striker, Galoola and Special Constable—were sorted oat for support to the tune of over a century. The favourite went into the lead from a good start, but refused to settle down, and gave place to Springbok, which was never afterwards headed, winning very comfortably. A good contest for second place resulted in Miss Huon Junior getting into that position,- and paying a remarkable dividend. A HOT FAVOURITE FAILS. There were no defections from the February Handicap, for which Mount Albert was established favourite, carrying nearly three times as much money as Belgian Qnepn and Huon Patch, the nextbest backed. George K. and Lady S. received some support, the others representing long prices. An excellent race resulted in a win for Lady S., while a ding-dong contest between George K. and Huon Tatch. which fought out the last balf-mile locked together, resulted in the former getting into second position by the barest margin. A GOOD CUP RACE. There were no withdrawals from the Trotting Cup, and speculation was very brisk. Steel Bell was made a hot favourite, but Stop It and Annoyed were well backed, while there was also some money for Jack Ashore. Mattie. Lady Wilmington, Hova and Prince Rufus. Wfe.Us.ce M. offered his fanciers a better betting proposition than anything else on the card. The race contained more than one surprise. Annoyed- was prominent in the leading division until she broke badly. Then Wallace M., which led for threeparts of the journey, got out of bis stride, and was passed by Stop It and Walnut. Then Stop It, when out two lengths in the lead, and only a hundred yards from home, broke, and Wallace M-, coming again at a great bat,. Just beat Walnut, and paid a handsome dividend. Steel Bell, though well placed throughout the race, never looked like a winner. ERIN'S KING DEFEATED. Erin's King was the popular fancy for tne Ascot Handicap, though Silver Grid had a big following, and Sundial had numerous friends. Anything else was paying a long price. The race Eoon resolved Itself into a triangular contest between Lieutenant, JErtn's King and Linotype. Half a mile from home Lieutenant went into the lead, and though Erin's King, all the tune under pressure, made a brilliant effort, he found the pace too solid. Lieutenant won a fast run race by a length and a half. Silver Grid broke early In the race, and was not afterwards sighted. BLACKTHORN A WINNER. Good fields were tke order of the day, the Alexandra Handicap being no exception. Blackthorn was made an even money favourite. Anything else Went out paying a hatful, Auckland Girl, Miss Marvin Downs, Bd»ivard R. and Autocrat being the only others to receive attention. The good thing duly came off. Blackthorn winning in great style. Clive's wa3 a meritorious performance, the scratch horse having a lot of leeway to make up, and finishing a good second. A GREAT RACE. The Papakura Handicap provided the best race of the day. Of the eleven accepters Floranz was established favourite, while Alf McKinney carried v lot of money, and Lady Wilmington, Phyllistina, Pearl DOr had friends. Half a mile from home Alf iMcKinney, Huia Grey, Phyllistina, Floranz. Resurrection, aud Lady Wilmington were disputing the issue. Alt McKinney led into the straight, juet clear of the others, and a great race resulted ln the son of Young McKinney winning nicely from the fast-finishing Lady Wilmington, While Huia Grey and Phyllistina deadheated for third, and Floranz and Pearl D"or were almost in line fourth.' A HOT FAVOURITE. j Ludski was served up as a hot proposition for tbe 'President's Handicap, and finished up an even money favourite. Master I Tark and Dick Fly had n few friends, but support for anything cisc- was very £<lfhearted. Julian took his mount early into the lead, and thereafter the issue was a foregone conclusion. Master Park's performance in running through the field Into second position was a good one. THE FINAL EVENT. Mireton was the popular choice for the •Farewell Handicap, though Victor G. and Floranz had a host of supporters. ETirly in the race St. Trella came to grief. The favourite was in the lead before half a mile had been covered, and thoiish challenged by Victor G.. maintained his advantage ln the run to the post, winning comfortably by two lengths and a-half. THE TOTALISATOR. The totalisator takings for the day indicated a slight increase over the corresponding period of last year, the increase for the meeting representing a snm of £2124. The figure.? are as follows:— 1911. 1915. Increase, j.- £ .£ Fir=l day KXSO7 12.252 1775 Second day ... 14.02 ft 14.97S 349 -Totals 25,136 27,260 2124 AN INQUIRY. The stewards held an inquiry into the running of Sundial in the Ascot. Handicap, but after hearing evidence decided to take no action.
