HARBOUR BOARD SEATS.
MR GUKSOW DECIDES TO RETIRE. ME. HARBCJTT WILL ACCEPT CfOMiXATIOX. An announcement was made in these eolumne a few days ago to the effect that Mr. J. H. Gunson had decided not to re-contest the chairmanship of the Auckland Harbour Buunl because he had consented to be nominated for the city mayoralty. .Mr. Gunson has now arrived at the further decision that he will not ( eeek a seat on the Harbour Board at the election* in April. He .states that having consented to accept nomination | for the mayoralty at the request of a | large section of the citizens, ho feels it j his duty to place himself in such a pos-i-Ition that, if elected, lie will be able to I devote to the office a full amount of time and energy. He will, therefore, 1 place his services unreservedly at the disposal Of citizeiw in so far as the , mayoralty is concerned. Mr Gunson's projected retirement , 'from the Board will affect one of the j 'three seats which are allotted to reprc- j Uentatives of the city are.a. Messrs. A. j jj Entrican, J. H. Braclney, and O. R. i Hutehinson have already announced ! their candidature for two of these. Iseate, and now Mr. S. J. Karbutt has j ] consented to be a third candidate for , : the city constituency. Mr. Harbutt was jwaited'upon by an influential deputation : which pointed out that the manner in i which lie had acquitted himself as president of the Auckland Industrial Association, and as a member of the .Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, justified tne request that he should contest a seat on the Harbour Board. After consideration !jlr. tlarbutt has consented to nomina--1 tion. I Mr. Bradncy states that he "ill again be a candidate for one of the city seats. ! and has no intention of being nominated ■by any other section of the Harbour ; Board elector*. j With regard to the outside seats. Mr. M H. "Wvnyard, of the legal firm of j Messrs. Wyiiyard. Skelton and Wilson, ; announces by advertisement elsewhere (that he has decided to become a eandi'date for the seat allotted to Onehunga land adjoining suburbs. ITe does so at I the request of the Onehunga-Manukau Chamber of Commerce, of which he fe chairman.
