KAISER AND THE GOVERNESS
LAUGHS AT HIS OWW JOKES. DETESTS THE SUFFRAGETTE. HIS " GOGGLING EYED SON. (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) (Received 8 a.m.) j I LONDON, January 21. An Englishwoman, who has been employed as governess in the household of a German prince, has written a book describing her experiences. She tells liow the children were taught to play •at flying Zeppelins and dropping bombs on a model London. The Kaiser was an occasional visitor to the house. She found him affable and condescending after lie had satisfied himself that she was not a suffragette, whom he held in lively detestation. When he made a witticism the Kmpcror laughed out loud, opening his mouth and throwing his head back slightly with a little perk, looking one straight in the eyes to discover if the humour of his remark had been seen. The more one laughed the better lie seemed pleased, and the more lively he became. He was almost like a merry child when his mind was fixed upon himself. Then he looked almost young and very vital, even if rather tatter than bis photographs. Occasionally an odd wandering strained expression came into his eyes, and be appeared older than his real age. On ope occasion John Burns told the Kaiser that the German army was not what it used to bo, The Emperor pretended not to take offence, but privately exclaimed,- "The damn little grasshopper." Describing General yon Hindenbcrg, in principal command in Poland, ttie authoress writes that she found the General a striking contrast to the Crown Prince, "with bis smart little moustache, and light coloured animal I eyes that surprise one with their sudden ' 'goggling" look." The writer contrasts i the Crown Prince's appearance with yon llindenbcrg's "fighting jaws, square head,! square even eyes under their.heavy lids, square ears, and luige moustache brushed out square on his square cheeks."
