PEER'S TRAGIC DEATH.
PREMIER BARON OP SCOTLAND FOCND DEAD IN HOTEL. . Premier baron of Scotland, Lord Forbes, at eighty-fire, was discovered dead on Wednesday morning, June 21, In a Dundee hotel with bIH throat cut. Head of an historic family, he had for years made his home In the principal hotels in Scotland, and generally took his meals in the privacy or his own rooms. He had been. iv Dundee sonic weeks. Early tbe previous morning the proprietor of the hotel noticed that the door of the baron's bedroom was open. There was no light withiu, and fearing that something was wrong he entered. The b<-d had not been slept in, and Barou Forbes was nowhere to be seen. A search wp.s made, and he was found lying on his Bide in front of the 11 replace in his owu room. There was blood on hie right hand, nnd it was nt first thought that ne hud fallen and hurt himself, but on the body being lifted into a chair It was seen that there was a deep gash in the throat and that death had: taken place. In the right hand a pocket-knife was still grasped. Horace Courtenay Gammell-Forbes, the nineteenth Baron Forbes, bad been a representative peer for Scotland since 1874. lie was born in February, 1829, and succeeded his father to the- title In ISUB. Tie was unmarried. He owned about 13,700 acres. The heir to the title is his brother. the Hon. Atholl Monson Forbes, who was born in ISU.
