The experience of the explorer -tefannsons crew, who were marooned 'in Arctic regions for months owing to the ice .-rushing their ship, the Karluk. shows that the drift of ice was not in a northerly but in a westerly direction. This is contrary to Amundsen* theory. The Canadian Government has decided to send a vessel to Wrangel Island to rescue the men.
