An interesting test case was brought before Mr. Widdowson, S3L, this morning, to determine whether an industrial union had the right to inflict fines on members for non-attendance at union meetings held on Sundays. The parties to the dispute were the Ouago Ttamway L'nion and Duncan Ingle, a member, tho ,-laim being f.ir :!/ .■niy. Mr. Hanlon (for defendant) explained thar there was direct legal authority on the. poini. but he submitted that il the court of justice could not fine, on Sunday an industrial union had no power to penalise .1 member for nonattendnnce at .1 meeting belli on iJimtliiv. Judgment was reserved.
