THE EXHIBITION
OPEN-AIR EVENTS POPULAR. EASTER HOLIDAY FIXTURES. The spectacle of a gathering of about 2.000 people at an open-air picture entertairrtnent in the Exhibition grounds last night -was sufficient to convince one that interest in tlic summer carnival is not yet on the wane. With the near approach of the Easter holidays and the dosing date it is safe to predict that poplarity will be maintained till the end. An interesting and varied set of pictures was screened last evening, ami a renewed, programme will be presented tonight. An open-air concert haa been arranged for .Saturday night, together with a final fireworks display. Tiie?e will follow on after what promises to be a sensa'tiona.l ballooning display in the Domain cricket ground during the afternoon. Xext week, being a semi-holiday season, the Exhibition wiil open at 10 a.m., and that rule will be observed till the end tff the seaeon. Just now tlt-e hours are from 2 till 10 ip-m. Season tickets for the remainder of the period arc 'being offered at quarter rat«s. Vocal competitions on Monday next, and elocution competitoons on Thursday are attracting good entries. A big lire-fight-ing demonstration is to he given on Wednesday. Widespread interest appears to prevail in connection with the two prizes oS £30 each, which are offered for the detection of the identity of two persons who -will visit the Exhibition on Saturday evening under the noms de plume of " Mrs. Spondulex " and " Mr. Spondulex." The former must be found by a lady, and the latter by a gentleman.
