SHELTERED BY ALLIANCE.
THE BRITAINS OF THE SOUTH. JAPAN CANNOT ATTACK. (Received 11.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The "Daily Telegraph,"' commenting on Mr Ma-ssey's speech, states that undoubtedly the fact that British inu-rests in the. Pacific are safeguarded by the Anglo-Japanese alliance; no good purpoK.' can be served by refusing to admit this. It is not correct to say that Australia and New Zealand are protected by Japanese ships and men. Mr Churchill did not say it. "No expedition from Furope need be feared."' continued the "Telegraph." Attack by the Flirted States was unthinkable, so also was invasion by any of the South American republics. There remains only Japan, since China may lie ruled out for some time to come; therefore obviously the alliance secures the safety of Australasia.
