BLACKMAILING A BARONESS.
FORGED -LETTERS IN COURT,
EX-CONVTCT'S PLOT FAILS.

LONDON, March 4. In the Court of King',, Bench Hugh Dalrymple. an ex-convict, sued the Baroness Yon Goctz. a wealthy philanthropist and tbe organiser of a'farm for discharged prisoners.
Dalrymple alleged that be loaned the baroness money, and produced scores of her letters containing endearing messages.
In a sensational cross-examination counsel proved that Dalrymple had been convicted of frauds upon women in 1806. In order to explain discrepancies in the letters, Dalrymple alleged that his brother was responsible.
Dalrymple's counsel threw up his brief, and a verdict for the defence was given.
The judge impounded a hundred letters, which were obvious forgeries. The evidence showed that the baroness had £40,000 in the bank at the time Dalrymple was attempting to blackmail her
