MOUNT "EBE&. The regular meeting of the Monnt Bden Borough Council was held last evening. Those present were the Mayor (Mr O. Nicholson) and Messrs 15. Tales, A. G. Lee, S. G. Burns, W. Woolley, J. W.Jones, H. Seabrobk, D. Mettle, E. H. Potter, B. Grayson. Chatham Street—A letter w»s-received-from the Public Works Department stat-. ing that in the opinion of the Commissioner, Chatham' Street waa probably a public highway at the constitution of the borough, and! was entitled to be treated as a public street ... . Hosing the Gardens.—Attention was called by Mr Meikle to the fact that the water accounts ■ were very heavy. He urged that the borough foreman toboojd watch closely ./that no resident was allowed to use a hose in the garden without a meter or a. permit. Swimming Baths.—An application was received that the baths should be open in the evening for ladies. It was suggested that Tuesday and Friday evenings should be set aeide for ladies, and Monday and Wednesday for the swimming club. The matter was left in the hands of the Mayor. '. Tenders.—Two tenders were received for the construction of Windmill Boad— D. Crowley; £861, and J. WUllamaon, £531. Dempaey (chairman), .1. B. Paterson, G. W. Mnrray, C. H. Furoess, J. G. Rutherj ford, P. Spencer, and W. J. Parker. j Skids over Sewer.—The engineer pre- | sented a plan of the proposed new skids and. footway over the Hobson Bay sewer, opposite the foot of Victoria Avenue; It was stated that the Drainage Board had agreed to , contribute £40 towards the cost of the structure; The whole matter was put into the hands of a committee with instructions to confer with the engineer, and push on the work at once-provided the cost was not excessive. Tram Service.—The Tramways Company notified that 2d minimum- fare care, as asked for by the Board, had been instituted on December 23rd, leaving town at 5.5 and 5.1S p.m. Bates on Tram Tracks.—A letter was received from the Tramways Company with reference to rates which the Board proposed to lery on its tracks within the district. It -was decided to refer the letter to the Board's soiidor for an opinion. OICEBttnCGA. Mr. J. Bowe, Mayor, presided at the meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council, held last night, and there were also present: Messrs. W. Colledge, J. B. Morton. G. L. Taylor, 1. Lomas, and E. Higgins. FINANCE. The treasurer's statement showed a credit balance in .the Cementery Fond of £4,427, and one-fourth of that amount in the District Account Accounts totalling £872 11/5 were passed for payment. DECLINED. The Council's application for a loan of £4,000 from the Public Trust -Office for the new Mangere Bridge was declined. • SANITATION. It was resolved to frame a by-law, compelling all residents in the borough, outside the drainage area to employ the services of the sanitary contractor for the removal of nighVoil. BATHING SHEDS. i The inspector reported that several complaints had been received re ittie dirty state of the bathing sheds, near Norman's IlilL It was agreed thnt the foreman of works should have the sheds cleaned and more ventilation provided. WATER SUPPLY. sit was decided to instruct the borough engineer to nave the work in connection with the anxfliary water supply completed at once, so 'that the same wdll be available when required. The turncock reported .having pumped 6,904,748 gallons of water during the last fortnight. HALF-HOLIDIAY. A petition was received from a large number of shop-keepers, asking the Council to fix Saturday as the statutory halfholiday. The petition -was taken chaise of by the Mayor, and will be considered ait a special meeting of the Council, .to be held next Monday, evening. » MORE LIGHT. Lt was decided to erect one lamp--at the ■corner of Tawa Eoad and Cameron Street TRIBN-NIAL VALUATION. The Tow.n Clerk announced that the triennial valuation of the borough was complete. Tbe ratable value of property in the borough is (subject to revision) £50,790, an increase of £8,550 over last year, and f1G.078 over the last .triennial valuation.
