FEELING EFFECTS OF TARIFF. NEW YORK, January 15. A conference of the National Woolgrowers' Association, now meeting at Salt Lake City, yesterday criticised tlis placing of wool on the free listMr Hagenbarth, the president, declared that the American nockmaster has been reduced to compete on unequal terms with the half-clad savage of South Africa, the peon of South America, or the skilled producer of New Zealand and Australia., American breeders should, he said, pay higher for pure-bred animals to improve the breed, as had been don;; in Australia and New Zealand. Where Americans paid £20 for an individual ram, Australians and New Zealanders paid £200 to £1.000.
