AN AWARD REFUSED.
BECAUSE UNION JOINS STRIKERS. (By Telegraph-—Press Association.) CHEESKMURCH, this day. Judgment was given to-day by the A-rbitration Court in a case brought by the Canterbury Motor-Car, Home Drivere', and liivery Staßle Employees' Union. The Court stated that after the hearing of the whole dispute under consideration, it wae reported by the newspapers that membere of the union had engaged in a etrike. The Court caused inquiries to be made, and obtained a written statemen-t from Mr Hunter (secretary of the union), who eaid the etrike was ordered by a majority of Trremibere on November 24, and called off, ac for ac most of the men were concerned, three d'aye later.
"These facts, , ' adds the judgment, "chow that the union was guilty of an offence under eeetron cix of the Act, and vvae lkMe to have ite registration euspended." The Couri is of the opinion, und-cr the errcumetancee, that it should refuse to make an award. The caee would ibe dismissed. It might 'be that the workers immediately concerned in the dispute were opposed to the etrike, and were, therefore, suffering for the blumleTE of others. Drivers of motor delivery vehicles could join the new union and obtain an award through it. Xo eueh union was available in the eaee of livery efca'ble employeee. The Court recommends employers to pay these workers the minimum wage fixed by £he laet Auckland award, £2 3/ weekly.
