THE CHSKTMAS TREE. - NEW BUILDIN« AT MANJUREWA. . Tbe Remuera Children's Home, which is -maintained by the Baptists of Auckland, was en fete to-day, it being the occasion of the Christmas tree. The toys have all been donated by various friends, and will be arranged on a tree , at the Home in Portland Road, Remuera, to-night. Meanwhile, about 40 children, with a number of friends of the institution, were entertained to -high tea at tbe Home this o/fternoon, by the Ladies' Committee, of which Mrs Howie is president and -Mrs Hay secretary. A kindly act was done by a young man who recently vi6ised the Home and ordered an invalid's chair for a crippled girl. Special interest centres in tho gathering this evening, as this is the last Christmas gathering in the Portland Strep; Home, as next year the children will be in more commodious premises at Manurewa, where a. site of 6even acre 6 was secured by the committee of management. The ground is eemivoleanic, and a meet healthy situation on a hill-top, where the westerly winds should be conducive to the healthfuln-eas and hardiness of the children. Mr H. C. Grienson, of Buildings, Queen Street, was i the -architect, to whom was entrusted ! the work of designing the new home for !the little ones. The building is now in j course of erection by Mr C. R. Lamb, ! whose tender was accepted at £7.375. i Already the structure is up to the win- | (lows, and the children should be in ! their new home, under very pleasant cur- ! rounding*., towards the middle of next I | year. Mr flricrenn has designed an ; effective-looking! building. eminently j suited for the purpose required.
