LEEDS MUNICIPAL STRIKE.
AN ULTIMATUM.
TRAHWAYHEir RETURN.
HOPEFUI SPIRIT IN DUBLIN.
LONDON", December 19,
The Special Strike Committee of the Leeds Corporation, on which Labour is not represented, yesterday notified that all strikers not returning to work tonight would be dismissed.
As the result of this ultimatum, the tramwaymen have resumed work, conditional on there being no victimisation. The posting of pickets round the municipal cemeteries took place yesterday in attempts to prevent volunteers from preparing graves. This has deeply offended the public.
Many ladies have volunteered to prepare food for the men who are maintaining the public services.
The strikers are indignant at the defection of the tramwaymen.
A conference between the Dublin masters and men, presided over by Mr A. Henderson (Labour M.P. for the Barnard Castle division of Durham), was held yesterday.
A hopeful spirit prevailed. The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Dublin (the Rev W. J. Walsh) suggested that there should be no strike without notice, or until the men had held a ballot.
