His Lordship Bishop Cleary and Monsignor Brodie celebrated matMß in the Convent chapel in the morning, ami in the afternoon the Siaiers and pupils we.re entertaaned at a violin recitaJ given by Miss Ruby McDonald, an Australian rmirjician, assisted by Miescs Amodeo and McGregor. Bishop I'leary, in the course of an address, paid a tribute to the great educational work done in New Zealand by the Stte.Tß of Mercy since the first membe.rs of the Order came out from Oarlow, Ireland, in ISTiO. He remarked that their twenty-five year.* of service had apparently rested lightly upon the five Sisters who w-ere now celebrating their silver jubilee, and expressed the hope that they might be spared to serve nraother quarter of a century at lestst. Monnignor Brodie congratulated the Order on securing a new home at The Pah, Epeoru, and wished thorn a still bigger sphere of usefulness. Nearly all the Auckland priewts visited the Convent during the day. and congratulated the i-ietere on reaching such an anniversary A flaxmill at Te Aotereie. seven miles from Raglan, on the Te Akau side of the harbour, owned by Mr. George Rutherford, was destroyed by fire on Wednesday. Between 30 and 40 hands -were employed at the mill. Two draught horses, valued at £SO, the property of ilr. J. Johnson, of Tc Aroha. were run down by the ThamesFrankton train on Saturday, and were killed on the spot. Both animals were terribly mutilated. Xo damage was caused to the engine. To-nixrht the Insurance Institute of Auckland holds its annual meeting and smoke concert. His Worship the Mayor, Mr W. A. Beddoe, Dγ McDowall.and other prominent citizens will address the gathering. An attractive musical programme has been arranged. A Government notice under the Plumbers Registration Act appears in this iesue, giving particulars of examinations neoessary to be undergone : befoxe registration is granted.
