ASSOCIATION GAME
A FIXE CLUB (RECORD. dn reviewing the league matches of the season, one cannot help noticing the all-round excellence of the different Everton teams. For one club to win the championship of the first grade, championship of the second, arid be run-ners-up in the third gTade. in the one season, is a feat that falls to the lot of very few clubs.
The first-grade eleven have played 12 League matches, winning 9, losing 2, and drawing one; scoring 40 goals, against 14. l\n addition to this they have played three friendly matches, viz", H.M.s. New Zealand, Hamilton, and Adult School, winnaing all three. The goal-scorers in the 'League fixtures are: R. Bovne 19, Shergolt 7. ilsbister 4, H. Boyne 3" Baker 2. Pitkin 2, (Brewer 1. Robinson 1, and Churchill. The two matches lost were on days when the team was weakened through the absence of regular members of the eleven, and on very wet days, when the state of the ground, was all against the Everton-stylo of play. Congratulations and credit 'must be given, however, to the North Shore Club, who haye 1 -the satisfaction of taking three points out of the champions, and to the Corinthians for taking two. Everton Btfw gone through the season with practically 12 players. They have been unable to draw upon the second team, owing to the second-grade team running well for their championship. A feature of the season has been the first-class -play of Reg. Boync. at centre forward. 'His record of goals scored speaks for itself. He has been the mainstay of the 'Everton attack, and, though "well marked in every game, he has generally managed to score. Flo is apt to he a* bit self-contained at times, to the detriment of his partner in the front rank, but. taking the. season through, he is far ahead of any centreforward in Auckland.
Baker, at centre-half, has played most consistently all the season. He never knows when he is beaten, and he has set a splendid example tc his team mates by Iris hard work and good all-round play. Robinson, the left fulPbaek, has played a useful game all through the season. The fact of his partner Ridley beins off-colour till a month ago, and then having only 14 goals scored against him in all League matches, proves that his play .has been consistently good, though" many expected even better things from him. The other members of the eleven have all done their share towards winning the championship, and the class of play has been such as might have been expected of a team winning the championship two years in succession. The Evcrton second-grade team are to he congratulated on ■winning the championship of the second division in 'League matches. They also liave a very fine record, having" played 12, won JO, drawn one. and lost- one, with a total of 21 points out of a possible 24, and have scored 34 goals and had 11 scored against them. The goal-getters were.: Churchill 11, Brown C, Lewis G, Baker 4, Caradus 3. «. Boyne 2, Moyle and ■Halstead 1 each. Their only deteat was against St. John's. Caradus has played a same all through the s-easoii, and has .captained the team in very smart fashion. Very few reserve.? have been available, and the team has -played the season through with .practically 12 men. All] the team have played consistently well, and have been enthusiastic and keen in fulfilling their engagements. They thoroughly deserve the honour they have won. Everton third-grade learn, though not winning the championship, are runnersup, with a fine record, of 14 matches played, winning 9. losing 3. and drawing" 2- <n>als for 30, goals against 10; championship points, 20. (Tabernacle A's, the winners of the third grade, finished -with -23 points.) The scorers have lieen: O'Connor 12, Hillcoat 0, Isibister 4, Craig 2, Martin, Fraser, and 'Camp/bell 1 each. The team have pUyed together well through the season, the only team to defeat" them toeing the Ta.bernacle A's, who-did- the trick three times. There , are several -players of distinct merit in the team, and Everton will have no fear of not being able to hold their own among the seniors with young players like O'Connor and Isbister, jun., coming on.
EvertonV fourth-grade record of League matches reads: Played 14, won 5, lost 5, and drawn 4: goals for, 17; goals againtU, 12. The <*oa]-scorars were as follow: Campbell 7, Kerr 3, ■Fl-yrni. Hillcoat. OX}onnor, Gates, Robertson. Barn-es_and Spinloy 1 each. They havr been well captained iby Kerr. a)id should do better next season. They have -a promising fuil-back in TC<lgar Boyne, brother to R. and H. Boyne, who bids fair to follow in his eldest brother's footsteps as a first-class soccer pUyer. *
