THE SUBSIDING EPIDEMIC.
CITY IMMUNE FOR FOUR DAYS. FEWER CASES XX THE COUNTRY. Th* Health Department was able tliis aitemoon to report a four days' respite from further cases of the disquieting epidemic in Auckland. There have been no additional caeee in the city or tuhuriK since Saturday, but two Maoris from all outlying district, Waiheke Island, were brought to Auckland la=t night for admission to the Isolation Hospital.
Reports from the country are becoming more reassuring each day, and the health officials are of the firm opinion that the disease can now be held in check * Another case was reported from Parawera last night by Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, and a letter was received from Dr. Staples giving particulars of the six deaths which have occurred at Maungatautari, Waika.to, during the past week or two. They included an infant, an old man, ' and tour Maoris, ranging in age from 33 Ito 50.
The Deputy Chief Health Officer (Dr. who has been in Auckland for a fortnight, leaves fnr Wellington to-night. His mission ; .s primarily to preside at a meeting of the Plumbers' Board, but his subsequent movements are uncertain. Ke predicts that the disease will be, eradicated within a month.
