! A New Zealand gentleman who is at the present time campling life in London writes as follows: —"Tell our frienda in 7viaon!and "who may be thinking of taking- a. trip Home to secure, if possible, before they start their voyage, a good sectional map of London, also an ABC railway guide, and copies of the 'bus, .tube and train companies' route maps; If they study these seriously on the voyage, they will be spending the time .well, and the knowledge gained will be !of great service to them when they come to explore this great overgrown city of London, and add greatly to their enjoyment. London policemen are wonderfully good to strangers, and eplendid animated guide posts, but while some of the 'hue, tra;.i ami tube train conductors are courteoue to strangers, ithe great majority of them are the. reverse. They seem to think one ought to know one's way about by instinct, an-d that it ie their duty to choke off an inquirer with the fewest words and leaei information possible. Also, many of them when calling out the stations, or the places to wbieh their vehicles are going, or have arrived at, seem to take a delight in vocal disfigurement of the names. For instance, 'Benkabenkeitybenk' means that the "bus is going to the city, and passes tie Bank of England. Then 'Olkenro' means Old Kent Road; TUifuncarale,' or simply 'Illifan,' or 'Carsle,'- means Elephant and Castle; •Poolstren' is Liverpool Street: and so on." 1/10 ie well spent In curing a troublesome cough, and 1/10 will do it if invested in a bottle of Baxter's Lung Preserver; all storekeepers.—(Ad.)
