Some Unionist papers assert that Mr Asquith intends to appoint Sir Kufus Isaacs in succession to Lord Alverstone as Lord Chief Justice of England. The proposal is condemned, having regard to the Marconi transactions. Tbe "Spectator , ' does not believe in the rumour, and adds: "Xo Prime Minister would replace Lord Alverstone in the way suggested.' . Lord Sheffield ( Liberali. speaking at Castlernuine last night, understood that the Government acquiesces in the Marconi Company repudiating their contract, and will proceed to negotiate for a fresh contract. A Select Committee of the House of Commons has been appointed to consider the procedure in connection with public bus-incfs.
