BRISBANE, this day. The proprietor of a local hotel reported to the police yesterday tbat his safe had been opened and £60 stolen.

Detective Head and Constable Scanlou met the Brisbane train at Toowoomba and tackled a suspect, who fled along the platform, keeping the officers covered with a revolver.

Scanlon dashed in and struck the man with an umbrella, but then fell, and Head continued the pursuit. After a desperate struggle he secured the man, who had a fully loaded revolver in his hand.

The Lieutenant-Governor (Sir Arthur Morgan) and hundreds of passengers watched the chase, and cheered the officers, Sir Arthur lifting his hat and adding, ''Good men."

The arrestee also congratulated them on their bravery, saying that they had faced what he would not. The missing money was found in his possession.
