THE RANKER'S REPLY.
CONCESSIONS DONT REACH HIM.
A member of tho Police Association, speaking; to a "Star" reporter th* morning, remarked that the concessions stated by the Minister to have been granted to the force were appreciated quite at their full value by the rankers of the service. "What have they given us?" he said. "They have given an increase in pay to the higher officers of the service; they have given us four superintendents tbat cost the country £2,000 a year; they have given us new and harassing regulations; they have given us a more comfortable uniform, for which we have to pay more out of our own pockets to get made up. Aloo, the Minister, ten months ago, gave us a promise that the uniforms would be free, but since then we have heard nothing more of it." That, the speaker said, was the view of the ranker in the force, of the concessions mentioned by the Minister, and the ranker quite failed to ace where he came within the scope of the concession*.
